Why choose a GEN4?

First released in 2017, the GEN4 engine was the accumulation of 26 years of Jabiru engine knowledge and experience. It represented the accumulated technological advances alongside everything we had learnt about being able to build an affordable aircraft engine in low volumes. It incorporated the collective experience of 6,500 engines in the field and included many of the improvements that were designed through the GEN 1,2&3 engines. These included roller cam hydraulic lifters, double valve springs, hardened top spring washers, valve relief pistons and pushrod oil feeds. These changes have driven the continuous improvement of the reliability of Jabiru engines.

Bulletproof Reliability

For engines, safety means reliability. The engine goes when you ask it to go, it stops only when you ask it to stop, and it delivers trouble free performance in between times.

What's new in the GEN4?

1.

Affordability

A reduced parts count through increased use of cast and forged elements maintains the Jabiru engines as the most affordable engine for comparative weight and power.

2.

Reliability

The GEN4 focused on improved thermal performance through the change in cylinder barrels, pistons and cooling fins; improved structural strength in the through bolt configuration; and improved durability of the cylinder head gear and flywheel attachment.

3.

Maintainability

Maintainability is significantly improved through the introduction of corrosion-resistant barrels. The design changes also focussed on ease of maintenance and accessibility improvements.

GEN4 Engine Specifications

Jabiru engines are designed by aeroplane people, for aeroplane people and intended to be affordable, reliable and easily maintained. They are designed and manufactured to ASTM F2339 and within quality assurance standard ASTM F3246, accepted as standards by regulators recognising the Light Sport Aircraft categories.

The engines are 4 stroke, horizontally opposed and primarily of aluminium construction. Cooling is provided by RAM air and the drive is direct to the propeller. The fuel system is based on a naturally aspirated, pressure compensating, carburettor driven by a mechanical fuel pump. The electric system is driven by an integrated electric generator with dual coils to provide the spark and an electric starter motor to get things going.
